Frank Ance Cantrell was born January 7, 1932, to Carel Fedwick Cantrell and Mary Ellen Everritt Cantrell. He spent his childhood years in Sibley, Louisiana, and was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. His military service lasted from August 8, 1952, to July 22, 1954..[1] After basic training, he was stationed in Japan. He held the rank of Corporal by the time he completed his service in the Army. He was a member of Sibley United Methodist Church in Sibley, Louisiana, and also attended Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Byhalia, Mississippi.[2]

Railroad Career

After his enlistment in the Army was over, he returned to his hometown of Sibley, Louisiana, where he began working for the Illinois Central Gulf railroad. He ultimately spent over 25 years in the railroad industry before retiring in the late 1990s from Kansas City Southern.


Frank had two siblings: a younger sister, Patricia Anne Cantrell (December 3, 1936 - November 17, 1985), and an older brother, Carel Fedwick Cantrell, Jr. (August 1, 1928 - December 7, 1995). [3] The Cantrell family grew up in a house located at 577 South Natchitoches Street in Sibley, Louisiana. He married Shirley Greeson and had two children, Gerald and Diane. Frank and his family lived in Illinois for a brief period before moving to Byhalia, Mississippi, which is located near Memphis, Tennessee. The family also owned property in Sibley, Louisiana, including the home on Natchitoches Street where Frank lived in as a boy.

Friends and Acquaintances

Two of Frank's closest friends were Dale and Barbara Ware who lived near Frank's home in Byhalia, Mississippi.

Frank Cantrell was diagnosed with lung cancer in September 2004 and was treated at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, with both chemotherapy and radiation. He passed away at his home at 2330 Old Pigeon Roost Road in Byhalia, Mississippi, on December 4, 2004, at the age of 72.

Resting Place

Funeral services were held at 11:00am Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, Mississippi. He was buried at Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sibley, Louisiana, on December 8, 2004.[4]
